1. Revit AutoSave & Auto-Sync Engine

Unlike Autodesk® AutoCAD®, Autodesk® Revit® has never featured a native, automated background saving mechanism. Instead, users are left with annoying “Save Reminders” that appear at the most inconvenient times and are easily snoozed or dismissed. A single unexpected crash or Windows freeze can wipe out hours of meticulous modeling work. AutoSave CC delivers a true, zero-friction revit autosave and auto-sync solution that protects your project progress silently in the background.

1.1. Configurable Timer Interval

Set your exact operational cadence with the Save interval setting. Whether you prefer a quick save every 5 minutes during intensive detail drafting or every 15–20 minutes on larger coordination models, the background worker continuously monitors the timer and executes save commands automatically without requiring manual user input.

1.2. Workshared Auto-Sync (Central Models)

Collaborative Worksharing Protection: Working on central models across BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Revit Server, or local SMB file servers? AutoSave CC includes a dedicated Auto-Sync toggle that synchronizes your local changes back to the central model without relinquishing borrowed elements.
  • Sync Without Relinquishing: Keeps team members synchronized with the latest model changes while preserving element checkout ownership so your active modeling flow remains uninterrupted.
  • Custom Sync Comments: Configure custom synchronization remarks (e.g., “AutoSync by MLabs”) to maintain clean and descriptive audit trails in Revit’s central model version history.

1.3. Scope: Projects & Families

Tailor your revit autosave preferences under the More Options expander with dedicated checkboxes:

  • Auto-Save Project (.RVT): Protect standard project files and local copies of central files.
  • Auto-Save Family (.RFA): Ensure custom parametric families and component libraries are automatically saved while in the Revit Family Editor.

1.4. Project Exception List

Need to exclude specific models from automatic saving? Click Show Exception List to open the exception manager. You can designate sensitive projects, read-only audit models, or massive federated coordination files that should never be saved automatically. The list is persisted locally in exceptionList.json and checked before every execution cycle.

1.5. Safe Command Guard

AutoSave CC is built with Revit API safety in mind. If you are actively drawing a wall, placing a dimension, or inside an active modal dialog, the command guard detects that Revit is busy. Rather than throwing errors or interrupting your active command, it gracefully postpones the save routine until Revit returns to an idle state.

2. Timer Settings & Countdown Box

Eliminate unexpected screen freezes during crucial design actions. The Timer Settings dialog lets you configure a non-intrusive floating countdown widget that provides clear advance notice before any save or sync action begins.

2.1. Countdown Warning Alert

Enable the Turn on Countdown Warning toggle and specify the warning window (in seconds, e.g., 10 or 15 seconds). A small, elegant timer notification appears on your screen counting down to zero, allowing you to wrap up your current click sequence smoothly.

2.2. Visual Styling & Custom Text

  • Color Palette Selector: Choose from a wide spectrum of background colors (with real-time HEX code preview) to match your desktop aesthetic or dark/light workspace theme.
  • Remind Text: Personalize the reminder message displayed inside the alert box (e.g., “Saving your hard work… take a stretch!”).
  • Font Size & Typography: Adjust text size and launch the Change Font Style dialog to pick your favorite font family, weight, and style.

2.3. Interactive Screen Positioning

Pin It Anywhere: Click PREVIEW & SET LOCATION to drag the countdown alert window to your preferred screen coordinate—such as the top-right corner of your secondary monitor—ensuring it never obstructs your active Revit ribbon or canvas.

3. Backup Cleaner (Disk Space Manager)

Revit’s default backup mechanism creates numbered files (e.g., Project.0001.rvt, Project.0002.rvt) alongside every save, which can consume hundreds of gigabytes across project folders and shared servers over time. AutoSave CC integrates both real-time automated cleanup and on-demand bulk file management.

3.1. Auto-Clean While Saving

Under the Auto-Clean tab, enable automatic backup deletion and define the maximum retention count: Keep the last [N] backup files. Each time an auto-save occurs, the plugin automatically evaluates the target folder and purges redundant older backup versions, maintaining optimal storage hygiene with zero manual upkeep.

3.2. Batch Folder Backup Cleaner

Launch the dedicated Backup Cleaner window from the Clean & Clear ribbon panel to clean entire directory trees:

  • Browse to any local drive, network share, or project folder.
  • Select specific file extension filters:
    • *.0###*(.rvt, .rfa, .rte): Standard numbered Revit project, family, and template backups.
    • *.dat: Worksharing data cache files.
    • *.rws: Revit workspace recovery files.

3.3. Scan, Recycle Bin & Permanent Delete

Choose the exact level of safety for your cleanup workflow:

  • Scan Files Only: Perform a safe diagnostic scan that lists all detected backup files, total count, and recovered disk space without modifying anything.
  • Send To Recycle Bin: Safely move unwanted backup files into the Windows Recycle Bin, allowing instant file restoration if needed.
  • Delete Permanently: Immediately purge files from disk to instantly reclaim storage space on SSDs or file servers.
  • Includes real-time percentage progress bar, summary report, and scrollable file activity log.

4. Wipe-Out Suite (Model & View Purge)

When preparing clean project templates (.rte) or sanitizing confidential client models before sharing with external consultants, manually deleting views and elements is tedious and often misses hidden components. The Wipe-Out suite provides complete model purging at your fingertips.

4.1. Wipe-Out Elements

The Wipe-Out Elements window lets you granularly clear specific categories:

  • Wipe Reference Planes: Remove unnecessary reference planes with optional type filtering.
  • Wipe All Project Models: Clear 3D geometry elements while retaining standards, types, and annotations.
  • Wipe Levels: Purge unused datum levels.
  • Wipe Revit Links: Unload and remove linked Revit models.
  • Wipe Imported CAD: Bulk purge imported DWG/DXF drawings that bloat file size and slow down rendering.
  • Wipe Rooms & Grids: Clear spatial boundaries and grid systems.
  • Wipe Images & PDFs: Remove raster images and imported PDF documentation.

4.2. Wipe-Out Views

The companion Wipe-Out Views tool provides high-speed cleanup of Revit views:

  • Wipe Plan Views: Clear floor plans, ceiling plans, and site plans.
  • Wipe Section Views: Remove building sections and detail cuts.
  • Wipe Schedules: Clean up obsolete quantification schedules and quantity take-offs.
  • Wipe View Sheets: Clear documentation sheets and drawing sets.
  • Wipe 3D Views: Remove perspective and axonometric views.

4.3. BIM Manager Use Cases

Essential for Office Standards: Quickly transform completed projects into pristine starter templates (.rte), purge confidential geometries before sending models to sub-contractors, and reduce bloated 500MB+ models down to lean, fast-opening files.

5. Project Info & Licensing

5.1. Live Project Information

Access the Project Info tool from the ribbon slide-out to inspect live document metrics, including file path, central server location, background auto-save running state, and document properties at a glance.

5.2. MLabs Pass & Support

Manage your single machine activation or multi-seat subscription directly through MLabs Pass. Access software updates, quick video tutorials, and dedicated developer support whenever you need assistance.
